Magnesium Research
You really really need it, most of us do NOT get enough from our diet. Some studies have found that up to 75% of people do not get enough of this very essential mineral. Diets high in protein, calcium, or vitamin D will increase the need for magnesium.
Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps to maintain normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, keeps the heartbeat steady, and helps bones remain strong. It also helps adjust blood glucose levels. It aids in the production of energy and protein.
My personal findings seem to indicate that both Migraine Headache AND Cluster Headache sufferers need a slightly higher amount of magnesium. My Prevention Plan recommends a supplemental dose of approx 120% of the USRDA level (500 mg) in addition to whatever you may be getting in your regular diet. This is a perfectly safe dosage as it is thought by most professionals that dangers of overdose are at levels near 5000 mg.
PLEASE NOTE: This is based on Magnesium Oxide, usually the cheapest type available in supplements sold at most stores.
